Digital postman: what it is, what it handles for you and how to choose one

A digital postman (Peppol Access Point) delivers your e-invoices and reports the data to the Financial Administration. Here is what to base your choice on and what to check before signing.

A digital postman (Peppol access provider) is an accredited service provider (Peppol Access Point) that delivers your e-invoice to the customer via the Peppol network and at the same time reports its data to the Financial Administration (Finančná správa). Without one, from 2027 you can neither send nor receive an e-invoice. You choose it yourself — in Slovakia, accreditation is granted by the Financial Directorate of the Slovak Republic as the Peppol Authority.

What a digital postman does

  • Delivers the invoice to the right recipient via the Peppol network — securely and verifiably.
  • Reports the invoice data to the Financial Administration within the 5-day deadline, automatically.
  • Makes sure you receive e-invoices from your suppliers.
  • Makes them available to you through accounting software or a web or mobile app.

Who can be a service provider

A provider (Service Provider) can be a supplier of accounting or ERP software, an IT company with its own infrastructure for electronic document exchange, or a financial institution or other intermediary. The applicant submits an application for accreditation to the Peppol Authority SK electronically via an electronic mailbox and provides, among other things, an extract from the Commercial Register not older than 3 months and proof of the clean criminal record of its statutory representatives.

How to choose one

What to checkWhy it matters
Accreditation with the Peppol Authority of the Slovak RepublicA non-accredited provider will not fulfil the obligation for you. The list of certified postmen is published on the Financial Administration's portal.
Automatic data reporting to the Financial AdministrationIf the postman does not do it, the 5-day deadline remains your responsibility.
Connection to your accounting softwareWithout integration you will retype invoices manually — exactly what e-invoicing is meant to avoid.
Price per sent and received documentReceiving is often charged too. Compare both directions, not just sending.
Receiving invoices even without issuing your ownYou must be able to receive, even if you do not invoice electronically yourself.

How much it should cost

There are two models — pay-per-use (you pay per number of documents) or a monthly subscription. In its material, the Financial Administration assumes that a subscription to a simple digital postman app will not cost more than the European average, i.e. roughly €5 to €12 a month. Always check exact prices with the specific provider. With us there is no monthly fee: a document costs €0.15 (excluding VAT from 1 November 2026) from prepaid credit and your first 10 documents are free; details are in the price list.

How long connecting takes

If you use software that is already connected to the Peppol network, activation is instant. With custom or more complex solutions, integration can take from several days to several weeks — so it does not pay to wait until December 2026.

Where to check

The Peppol Authority of the Slovak Republic is the Financial Directorate of the Slovak Republic: it accredits service providers, sets the national rules for implementing the Peppol standard and promotes the use of eFaktúra. It accepts questions at efaktura@financnasprava.sk. You can find out whether a specific company is already in the Peppol network with our free checker by Company ID (IČO).
